Days 3 & 4 of Owen's Life: We're Home

We got home from the hospital yesterday! It felt great to be home and in our own bed and on our own schedule without nurses constantly coming in. It was a very weird feeling though for Ryan and I when we left the hospital. It was very emotional because we were finally going to be home with our little man, but now it was going to be just us on our own figuring out our way as parents.

My parents and Nona (great Nona to Owen) came to visit us the first night home. It was wonderful because they cooked us a great dinner, cleaned up the kitchen for us and made us a delicious lemon cake that Ryan and I have been thoroughly enjoying!

Our first night at home actually went alot better than what I was expecting. We put Owen in our room in a pack and play, it was a last minute decision because I knew I would not be able to sleep if he was in our room. I was glad we made that decision. We originally were going to have the beautiful wooden cradle that Ryan's siblings used in our room but we decided to put it down in our family room so that I don't have to go up and down the stairs during the day. I think he got up about every 2 hours or so, but I ended up getting about 4-5 hours of sleep which was alot more than I expected. And overall his eating was good through the night, I think him and I are finally getting this breastfeeding thing down!

Ryan and I are nervous (everything little thing makes us worried and wanting to make sure he is all right, but I guess that is normal with your first one), but also so in love with Owen and so happy to have him in our life.

On a side note, the joys of having a boy, today I was changing his diaper and Ryan was grocery shopping and Owen was pooping and peeing more as I was changing him. It was going all over the place. He almost had me in tears because it just kept coming and I had no idea how to clean it up without Ryan's second set of hands. He has been so wonderful, despite what he says about not knowing what to do, he is a natural!

Welcome Owen James Cavanaugh!

Welcome to the world Owen James Cavanaugh!

Owen was born at 10:48 am on March 26, 2011. He weighs 7 lb 11 oz and is 19 inches long! He came as a surprise about 2 weeks early, I guess he wanted to share in March Madness with his dad, the Dr. of Bracketology. He was stubborn coming out, making his mom push for awhile, but it was all well worth it (the doctor said I was a superstar and she was ready to rock it out when we started pushing). The nurse said Owen had a cone head when he came out, which he definitely did, and his Aunt Lynn was worried that would not go away. But by last night his head was perfectly round! We got through our first 24 hours and he is doing wonderful.

Here are some pictures of the little man. (We think he is perfect!)

We will try to keep updating as we get more pictures of Owen and the family.

Week 38 Bump

Week 38:

In the final 2 1/2 weeks until my due date. I went to the doctor on Friday and he said I am not dilated and still not alot of space in there. So no baby quite yet! When I was at church last night I said some prayers that everything stretches out and makes room for Baby Cavanaugh!

It is getting annoying because I am having to go to the bathroom literally every 5 minutes sometimes. This past week I sat in trainings/meetings all day all week and it was miserable on my back and bladder. In one meeting, the superintendent announced at the beginning to the principals and other important "high up" people in the district that there is an expectant mother in the room and to allow me to get up whenever I needed to use the restroom and stand up. It was kind of embarrassing!

Here are some pictures from today. My parents, brother, grandpa and aunt and uncle and cousin came in and brought yummy food! It was nice to hang out and relax and watch some bball! Go Badgers!

Week 37 Update

Week 37- Little over 3 weeks to go!

Start of Lent this past week and for my Lenten Promise I have given up chocolate. I was going to give up sweets entirely but I knew that I would probably want some type of sweet after I have the baby and I think that I will deserve it at that point. I know already that they give us a celebration dinner at the hospital which includes cupcakes, so I decided to forego giving up all sweets. Chocolate is my main culprit anyway and that will be difficult enough to be without for 40 days and my last days of pregnancy. However, I will say overall that I have done very good with not letting myself go and just pigging out on junk food throughout my pregnancy. I was actually kind of worried when I did not gain any weight last week and this is the point when the baby should be packing on the pounds!

I went to the doctor on Friday and he said everything looks good, except he said there does not seem to be alot of space in my pelvic area. He said not too worry at this point, still time to stretch out. So we will see what happens. In the meantime, I am doing lots of squats, pelvic rocks and walking to get that area stretched out. I figured anything is worth the try!

Ryan put the car seat in the car today. The only problem is that it is a tight squeeze in our garage to get the car seat in and out. I may need to have the car out of the garage to get the baby in and out. I think that did not put Ryan in a good mood today because he hates our small garage! I also began to pack my bags for the hospital just in case!

Hope everyone has a Happy St. Patrick's Day! Drink some green beer for me!

Week 36 Bump & Nursery Pictures

Week 36!! Whoa!! The bump is getting big! Ryan took a very close up picture to really enhance the size of my belly. Still feeling good and plugging along. I go to the doctor again this coming Friday and will give you an update on how things are progressing. I counted the number of work days left if I went all the way to my due date and I am at 20 days! The countdown begins.

Ryan and I have been busy getting things ready around the house for the arrival of our little one. Below are some pictures of the nursery. It is about done for now until the baby comes and then we may add some gender specific decorations to it.

The quilt that grandma and great nona made for the little Sweet Pea! This was the rocking chair that my parents used to rock all of us in when we were babies.
There is the hat that Jaime made and the baby will most likely wear home from the hospital!

Week 35 Check-up

I just went to the doctor for my Week 35 check-up (appointments every week from here on out). She said that everything is progressing beautifully! She is hilarious, she always calls me love and says my belly is so cute and perfect like a movie star's belly. I am sure she tells all her patients that!

The baby's head is down and ready to go very soon! Woo hoo! Hopefully it stays that way. At this point everything looks normal, not dilated yet. I have my next appointment next Friday and will let you know how things are looking. I am heading into my 26th week in a few days. How time flies by when work is crazy!
